By default, Silvanet Border Gateways Gen3 include an embedded SIM from Telus, which automatically connects to Telus roaming partners worldwide.
If Telus roaming coverage is not available in your deployment area, you can use your own micro SIM card from a local LTE-M / NB-IoT provider. When using a custom SIM, you must configure the APN (Access Point Name) in the Silvanet Deployment App before completing the installation.
Before inserting a SIM, make sure it is supported. See the article: Compatible SIM Cards?
Step 1: Insert the SIM Card
Open the SIM slot cover on the Border Gateway.
Insert the micro SIM card into the SIM holder.
Ensure the SIM is fully seated and secured.
Close the SIM slot cover.
⚠️ Do not complete the physical installation yet. The APN must be configured first.
Step 2: Scan the Border Gateway in the Silvanet Deployment App
Open the Silvanet Deployment App on your smartphone.
Tap the scan icon in the top-right corner of the app.
Scan the Border Gateway using NFC.
Once scanned, the device details will open automatically.
Step 3: Configure the APN
Scroll down in the Border Gateway device details.
Locate the APN field.
Enter the APN provided by your SIM card provider.
Carefully verify the spelling (APNs are case-sensitive).
Save the changes.
Step 4: Continue with the Normal Installation Process
Once the APN has been configured:
Proceed with the normal Border Gateway installation process.
Select your Site.
Select the Border Gateway from the device list.
Complete the deployment as instructed in the app.
Network Registration Timing
After installation, the Border Gateway will begin registering on the cellular network.
Initial registration typically takes up to 10 minutes
In some cases, it may take up to 1 hour, depending on the provider and coverage
Tip: If the Gateway does not connect after 1 hour:
Reconfirm the APN with your SIM provider
Verify LTE-M / NB-IoT coverage at the location
Re-scan the device and recheck the APN entry
