Performing a Fire Test involves the use of open flames and must be carried out with extreme caution. Your fire specialist will guide and support you through all necessary safety precautions. It is also helpful to understand the safety procedure they will follow. Here are the typical safety measures followed during a Fire Test.
Before the Test – Prepare and Plan
Check local regulations: Obtain any necessary permits and confirm that burning is allowed on the scheduled test date.
Assess conditions: Avoid testing during high fire danger, strong winds, extreme heat, or low humidity.
Select a safe site: Choose a clear, open area with no nearby flammable vegetation or structures.
Gather equipment: Ensure you have a fire extinguisher (6 kg ABC type), bucket or hose, fire blanket/shovel, and first aid kit available.
Assign roles: Designate a Fire Safety Lead, ignition operator, and fire suppression team.
During the Test – Stay in Control
Maintain constant supervision: Never leave the fire unattended.
Watch for changing conditions: Stop immediately if wind or weather shifts.
Have suppression equipment ready: Keep the fire extinguisher, water source, and shovel within easy reach.
After the Test – Ensure Full Extinguishment
Douse all flames and embers: Use water and stir ashes until completely cold to the touch.
Inspect the area: Check surrounding vegetation and soil for hidden smoldering spots.
Record observations: Note any safety issues to improve future tests.
Confirm the site is safe: Do not leave until there is no remaining fire risk.
Important: If conditions are unsafe or uncertain, postpone the test. Safety and environmental protection must come first.
