The number of days required to deploy a Silvanet network depends on a few key factors such as the size of your deployment area, the number of devices, terrain difficulty, and your team's familiarity with the tools and process.
This guide will help you estimate and plan accordingly.
Tip: We recommend planning a 1–2 day buffer at the end of every deployment. This allows time for devices to fully charge and connect, as well as for a complete site review. If adjustments are needed, your team can address them before leaving the field.
Key Factors That Affect Deployment Time
1. Number of Devices
- Gateways (Border & Mesh): Usually Border Gateways take 40–60 minutes and Mesh Gateways 15-30 minutes to install and test.
- Sensors: Typically 5–10 minutes per unit once the network is up.
2. Team Size
- A team is always by 2´s, and can deploy 10–50 sensors per day, depending on conditions and topology.
- Larger or more experienced teams may complete up to 100 sensors per day.
3. Site Accessibility
- Easy access (e.g., drivable terrain) speeds up deployment.
- Dense forests, mountains, or remote areas will slow down progress.
4. Pre-deployment Planning
- Sites with well-planned gateway placement, pre-charged devices, and site mapping take significantly less time to deploy.
- Consider spending ½ day before deployment on charging and connectivity tests.
Sample Deployment Timeline
| Deployment Size | Suggested Duration | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Small (1–2 gateways, 10–20 sensors) | 1–2 days | Can often be completed in a single visit |
| Medium (3–5 gateways, 50–100 sensors) | 3–4 days | Includes time for mesh validation |
| Large (6+ gateways, 500+ sensors) | 5–7+ days | May require multi-team coordination and staging |
Pro Tips for Efficient Deployment
- Install all Border Gateways first to establish connectivity to the Silvanet Cloud
- Test each Border gateway’s connection before proceeding to Mesh Gateway installation
- Install Mesh Gateways to establish the mesh network
- Install Wildfire Sensors to complete the network
- Use the Deployment App to verify each device as you install it
- Bring spare devices and mounting tools to avoid delays in the field
