Overview
The Silvanet Gen 4 sensor provides air quality information using its integrated Particulate Matter (PM) sensor. It delivers real-time measurements of airborne particles, with a focus on PM2.5 (particulate matter with a diameter of 2.5 micrometres or smaller).
How air quality is measured
Air quality is calculated based on the concentration of particulate matter in the air. These values are mass-based measurements, expressed in micrograms per cubic metre (µg/m³), rather than particle counts or volume fractions.
What the sensor currently measures
At present, the system reports PM2.5 data only. While the sensor hardware is capable of detecting additional particle sizes such as PM1 and PM10, these are not currently supported in the software output.
Measurement technology
PM2.5 particles are detected using laser-based optical sensing technology, which enables the sensor to measure fine particles directly and provide continuous, real-time air quality data for environmental monitoring and wildfire detection.
