Overview
The Silvanet Gen 4 Pro sensor provides an additional functionality called Weather Station Mode when configured with Satellite Connectivity.
Weather Station Mode enables environmental monitoring in remote locations where traditional network infrastructure may not be available. Using satellite connectivity, Gen 4 Pro sensors can collect and transmit environmental data to provide insights into local forest conditions.
What Data Does Weather Station Mode Measure?
When operating in Weather Station Mode, the Silvanet Gen 4 Pro sensor provides hourly weather data reported every 4 hours., including:
- Temperature
- Humidity
- PM2.5 (Particulate Matter)
These measurements provide detailed information about the surrounding microclimate and support long-term environmental monitoring.
How Weather Station Mode Works
When Weather Station Mode is enabled, the sensor switches from its primary wildfire detection function to a dedicated environmental monitoring mode.
The sensor continuously collects environmental data from its surrounding area and transmits this information via satellite connectivity. The collected measurements can then be viewed and analysed through the Silvanet platform.
Multiple Weather Station Mode sensors can be deployed across an area to create a more complete picture of local environmental conditions.
Weather Station Mode and Wildfire Detection
Weather Station Mode is designed exclusively for environmental monitoring and operates separately from the Silvanet Gen 4 Pro sensor's primary ultra-early wildfire detection functionality.
When a Gen 4 Pro sensor is configured in Weather Station Mode, it is dedicated to collecting and transmitting environmental data. In this mode, wildfire detection is not available.
When configured in Fire Detection Mode (using either Satellite or LoRa connectivity), the Gen 4 Pro sensor provides both ultra-early wildfire detection and environmental monitoring. Environmental data reporting intervals vary depending on the selected connectivity type: Satellite connectivity reports environmental data every 6 hours, while LoRa connectivity reports environmental data every hour.
