🪵 Permanent Method: Mounting with Treenails
Steps:
Choose a healthy tree at the correct GPS location.
Clear a flat bark surface at 3 meters height.
- Carefully remove a small portion of the bark with an axe at that location. Try not to excessively damage the tree.
-
Drill a 6–7 cm deep, 10 mm hole.
For hardwoods, start with a smaller pilot bit.
5. Insert the treenail through the sensor loop and spacer.
6. Carefully hammer the treenail into the hole.
7. Ensure the sensor hangs vertically and loosely.
Why the Spacer Matters:
Keeps sensor dry & sap-free
Ensures proper radio angle
Allows vertical hanging
Temporary Method: Garden Wire
Use Case: Short-term demos or trials.
Steps:
Cut garden wire twice as long as the tree’s circumference
Feed it through the sensor and spacer.
3. Loop it snugly around the tree and twist to secure.
4. Make sure the sensor hangs securely.
⚠️ Note: Garden wire can damage tree growth. Use only for temporary testing or mobile deployments.
