Installing Silvanet Wildfire Sensors correctly is crucial for ensuring effective early detection and accurate data transmission. This guide will walk you through the step-by-step process of installing Dryad’s wildfire sensors in the field, from identifying devices to mounting and registering them in the system.
Note: We continuously improve our technology and deployment processes. While the overall installation procedure typically remains the same, minor changes may be introduced from time to time. To ensure your devices are installed correctly, always follow the installation instructions provided in the Silvanet Deployment App during deployment.
Before You Begin
Before heading to the field, make sure you have:
- Access to the Silvanet Deployment App
- An Site plan, created and Set To Deploy from the Planning Tool
- Fully charged mobile device with location services and internet access (if available)
Step 1: Select the Site for Deployment
Open the Silvanet Deployment App.
Select the site you will deploy from the site list.
Step 2: Select the sensor to install
View your planned sensors on the map to locate the closest installation point by clicking the “Show Device on Maps” button.
Select the sensor you will deploy from the device list.
Step 3: Navigate to your planned installation location
Your current location is indicated by the blue dot on the map.
The highlighted sensor corresponds to the device you have selected for deployment.
Step 4: Install the Device
Follow the on-screen instructions to locate the sensor’s QR code.
Press the Install Device button to complete deployment.
Step 5: Scan the sensor QR code
Position your phone’s camera so the sensor’s QR code is centered in the frame.
The app automatically scans the code and identifies the device for installation.
Step 6: Confirm successful registration
Confirm that the app indicates the device has been successfully registered.
Select Next Step: Mount Device to proceed with mounting the sensor.
Step 7: Mount the Sensor
Permanent Method: Mounting with Treenails
Choose a healthy tree at the correct GPS location.
Clear a flat bark surface at 3 meters height.
- Carefully remove a small portion of the bark with an axe at that location. Try not to excessively damage the tree.
-
Drill a 6–7 cm deep, 10 mm hole.
For hardwoods, start with a smaller pilot bit.
5. Insert the treenail through the sensor loop and spacer.
6. Carefully hammer the treenail into the hole.
7. Ensure the sensor hangs vertically and loosely.
Why the Spacer Matters:
Keeps sensor dry & sap-free
Ensures proper radio angle
Allows vertical hanging
Temporary Method: Garden Wire
Cut garden wire twice as long as the tree’s circumference
Feed it through the sensor and spacer.
3. Loop it snugly around the tree and twist to secure.
4. Make sure the sensor hangs securely.
Note: Garden wire can damage tree growth. Use only for temporary testing or mobile deployments.
Confirm in the app that the sensor has been successfully mounted.
Step 8: Installing completed
The app confirms that the sensor installation was successful.
Step 9: View device details
Select Show Device Details to view information such as deployment status, sensor serial number, and geolocation.
Add notes if required to record site-specific details.
