The Silvanet Site Planning Tool allows users to plan and create deployments that extend an existing site, leveraging the current network infrastructure to expand LoRa coverage or, in some cases, add new sensor areas without requiring additional gateways.
What You’ll Need
-
Your existing deployment must have a status of Deployed or Cancelled. New deployments cannot be created if there is still an active deployment in Set to Deploy status.
These statuses are reached when:
Deployed - All devices have been successfully installed in the field. This status is also applied if only part of the deployment was installed and a user manually selects Finish Deployment in the Planned Deployment panel (Completed is treated as a deployed state).
Cancelled - No devices were installed. Users select Cancel Deployment in the Planned Deployment panel to update the status.

How to Create an Extension Plan
Creating a plan to extend an existing deployed site follows the same process as planning a new Silvanet site (see the article above), with one key difference: when entering the Site Planning Workspace, the map view automatically centers on your existing deployed site and displays:
Deployed gateway and sensor locations
Simulated LoRa coverage of the already deployed gateways
Select "Plan Connectivity" in the Planning Tool toolbar to add additional gateways and verify their connectivity with the existing network infrastructure.
Select "Draw Area" or "Draw Path" to add new sensor areas within existing simulated LoRa coverage, without requiring additional gateways.
Important: While you can extend a site anywhere on the map using a Border Gateway, we do not recommend combining locations that are far apart into a single site. This can create management challenges for monitoring teams and potential issues for first responders. Always create separate Silvanet sites for distant deployment locations.
