In some deployments, Gateway locations cannot be freely chosen. A Gateway may need to be installed in a specific position because:
It requires LAN for backhaul connectivity
It must be powered via PoE
Only certain parts of the site have LTE-M / NB-IoT mobile coverage
It will be mounted on existing site infrastructure (e.g., towers, buildings, utility poles)
There is limited availability of suitable trees for mounting
When a Gateway position is fixed, you should adapt your site planning method accordingly.
This guide explains how to use the Silvanet Site Planning Tool to position your Gateways at fixed locations.
Before You Start
Make sure you have:
The decimal degrees (DD) geolocation (latitude and longitude, e.g., 52.5246659, 13.4022555) for each fixed Gateway location.

Using the Planning Tool to Set Fixed Gateway Locations
The Silvanet Planning Tool allows you to manually enter geo-location coordinates for any device using the device properties panel. This enables you to set precise, fixed Gateway positions when their installation location is predetermined.
Once updated, the Planning Tool will recalculate and display the simulated LoRa coverage based on the new position, ensuring accurate and reliable network planning.
To set or adjust a Gateway’s location:
Click the Gateway you want to modify.
-
The device properties panel will open, displaying the following fields:
Name
Installation Height
Network
Power Type
Geo-location
Click each field under Geo-location to edit the latitude and longitude.
Enter the correct decimal degree (DD) coordinates for your fixed Gateway location.
The new coordinates will be saved automatically when you click outside the field or press Tab.
